Holy of Holies

Jesus Is Lord of All:

This month we reach our destination on our journey through the Tabernacle. We will enter into the Holy of Holies where God dwelled with His people on their journey from Egypt through the wilderness. The time we have spent learning about the Tabernacle has been all about Jesus and our walk with Him. The Tabernacle is a type and shadow (Hebrews 8:5) of what He did for us when He went to the cross and died in our place.

We enter the Holy of Holies with worship. We see everywhere throughout the Bible that we are to worship God. But what does it mean to worship Him. It is more than just singing songs. It means to honor Him, to love Him with all our hearts, to be devoted to Him, to be humble before Him and to pursue Him.

Mankind was created by God to worship Him. Because we were all created to be worshippers, we all worship something. Many of us worship everything but Him. Many worship their cars, their homes, their jobs, their position in life, themselves or others. Others blatantly worship satan or other gods.

So, as we study the Holy of Holies, let’s stay in tune with worship to our Creator; for it was He who gave us life and has provided eternal life for those who accept what His Son, Jesus did for us. The Holy of Holies was not seen by human eyes when God was present inside, except once a year when the High Priest went in to make atonement for the sins of himself and the people. He had several rituals he had to go through before he could enter. He had to wash himself seven times. He had special clothing he put on; and he took the blood from the Brazen Altar in with him. He had bells on the bottom of his robes, and a rope tied around his ankle. As long as they heard the bells ringing, they knew he was alive. If he did something wrong while in the presence of God, he would die and they could not go in after him. They had to pull him out by the rope.

Between the Holy Place and the Holy of Holies hung a very heavy veil. Behind the veil in the Holy of Holies was the Ark of the Covenant. It was made of wood and overlaid with gold. Inside the Ark of the Covenant were three things…the 2 tablets of stone with the 10 Commandments on them; a jar of manna from the wilderness journey; and Aaron’s rod that budded. You can read about this in Hebrews 9:1-7.

Each of these things represented something then and they still do today. The 10 Commandments are still to be followed to this day. God changes not, and He ordained that man should live by those commandments. The 10 Commandments represent learning the word of God and living by them. They keep us sanctified or set apart from the rest of the world. Jesus kept all these laws and sanctified us by the blood He shed for us.

The jar of Manna represents the Bread from heaven that fed Israel while they were in the wilderness. It also represents Jesus, the bread from heaven that came into our world to save us. It represents the Word made flesh in Jesus and in us as we read and study it.

Aaron’s rod that budded represents the power and authority of the Holy Spirit. It is the miracle working power of God with signs and wonders for all to see.

On top of the Ark of the Covenant was a lid called the mercy seat. Over the lid on each side, were 2 Cherubim facing each other with their wings touching. The High Priest came in once a year and sprinkled the blood from the Brazen Altar on the Mercy Seat for atonement of sins for all the people. This was the way God required them to be forgiven for another year. When He saw the blood of the sacrifice on the doorposts the night the death angel came into Egypt, the death angel passed by that house and those inside were safe. (Exodus 12:13 & 23)

Thanks to Jesus, His blood was the eternal sacrifice for all time. When we accept Him as our Savior, God sees us through the blood of Jesus…totally forgiven and one of His own children.

At the exact time that Jesus died on the cross, the heavy veil that separated the Holy of Holies from the Holy Place was torn in two from the top to the bottom. Matthew 27:50-51 tells us the story. This was the end of the separation of God from man. Jesus fulfilled all the requirements of the law for us and purchased us back from satan and his power over us. The tearing of the veil signifies that we can now come into the presence of God any time we want to through the shed blood of Jesus. He purchased our freedom from death, hell and the grave.

The problem is that mankind for the most part doesn’t know that. That is why it is so important to accept Jesus as our Savior. Until we do that, we belong to satan. Adam sold us out and Jesus bought us back. It is just that simple. Just like Moses led the nation of Israel out of Egyptian bondage, Jesus has made the way for us to come out of the bondage of the world we live in today.

One other thing Jesus did for us was to give us the power and authority over satan. Luke 10:17 & 19 are two of my favorite scriptures and use them a lot. “Lord, even the demons are subject to us in Your name.” “Behold, I have given you authority to tread upon serpents and scorpions and over all the power of the enemy and nothing shall be any means harm you.”

Going back to the beginning of Luke 10, we see that seventy disciples of Jesus had been sent out to tell the people in Israel that the kingdom of God had come near them. They were given the authority to heal the sick. As they went, miracles of healing and deliverance were taking place all in the name of Jesus. We have that same authority today. Philippians 2:9-11 tells us that “….God highly exalted Him (Jesus) and bestowed on Him the name which is above every name; that at the name of Jesus every knee shall bow of those who are in heaven, and on earth, and under the earth; and that every tongue shall confess that Jesus Christ is Lord to the glory of God, the Father.”

There isn’t anything on this earth that isn’t subject to the name of “Jesus” now. And, He has given us the same authority to use that name as He gave his disciples. At the name of “Jesus” demons have to bow their knee. The problem is, the church as a whole is perishing because they do not know that or believe it.

So, we can come boldly into the presence of God now (Hebrews 4:16)…not in our own self-righteousness, but in the righteousness of Jesus. As we enter behind the veil into the presence of God here on earth, we are to come as His children. We are now fellow heirs with Jesus. (Romans 8:17)

With news like that, how can we come any way other than with worship for what He has done for us. What an awesome God we serve. We can come to Him knowing He hears us and longs to fellowship with us. We were created to fellowship with Him.

Hosea 4:6 tells us that the reason we are perishing is for lack of knowledge. Romans 12:2 tells us “And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what the will of God is, that which is good and acceptable and perfect.”

That is how we stop perishing and really start to live. We take the bread of heaven (the word of God) and renew our minds with it. Then we follow the 10 commandments and the Holy Spirit gives us the rod of Aaron as miracles of His power and grace. We can now live in harmony with Him, not separated from Him.

I Corinthians 3:16 is an awesome scripture. “Do you not know that you are a temple of God and that the Spirit of God dwells in you?” Those of us who have accepted Jesus as our Savior have born again spirits inside us. Now the Holy Spirit can dwell in us and bring us into the throne room of God. In fact, II Corinthians 13:5, tells us that Jesus Christ dwells in us now. We are each a temple of God here on earth!!!

Think of that for a moment. The Creator of the Universe…the Creator of all there is in now dwells in each one of us by His Holy Spirit. He actually chooses to live in us. That doesn’t make us God, but it makes us holy and separated unto Him. It means we have the same power and authority that Jesus has. It means we can use the name of Jesus, the blood of Jesus and the word of God to overcome everything that comes against us. I didn’t say that. The Bible Says That!!!

God now dwells by His Spirit in the very throne room of your heart if you are born again. As we worship Him, we yield our will to His will. Worship is trusting in Him and His word and the sacrifice of the blood of Jesus that was shed for us. Worship embraces Him. Praise comes from our mouths, but worship comes from our hearts. Worship expresses the love we have for Him in our hearts. Romans 5:5 says, “The love of God has been poured out within our hearts through the Holy Spirit who was given to us.”

So, set aside time each day to come into His presence and fellowship with Him in His word, prayer and worship. Just thank Him and tell Him how much you appreciate what He has done for you. Ask Him to shed light on His word so you can do His will in your life. As you do that, He changes you into His image and calls you to shine your light before others around you. Then you will do His will and bring others to the saving knowledge of Jesus Christ. He died for everyone on this earth. How unfortunate for so many that they don’t know or understand that. But you can be His light in this world.

May the Holy Spirit rule and reign in you from this day forth and even forever more.
